Hernan Cattaneo – Sequential

Hernan Cattaneo - Sequential.True to form, as i’ve come to expect from Hernan now. This CD is another awesome installment of quality progressive. The programming is exceptional and Hernans track selection never fails for me personally.

Disc 1 – The first disc starts off with a couple of mood setters which really lay the foundations for the first disc. Both beautifully melodic in their own rights. Then Hernan gets a bit groovy, Trafik‘s basslines are usually impressive and this one is just so. Thought Line is a nice little groover that moves the mix on nicely. The mix continues on this path of groovy, tribally niceness for a small period until reaching the amazing 1983 by Paolo Mojo. This guy’s massive at the moment and although I’d heard this on Luke Fair’s Original Series, the track sounded just as fresh on this mix. It’s a truly brilliant piano laden piece of 80′s funk, perfectly placed by Hernan. Whats more amazing is how Hernan turns this into a CD curveball. What comes next is the best transition on the disc for me, the drop into Chris Ilopis – Dize Moi really does get your attention nicely and moves this set into yet another direction. This time a bit more techy and forceful. The tracks from this point are real floor destroyers. Even the worrying site of Way Out West – Wonka is nothing to be concerned with. When I heard that Nick and Jodi had sampled Willy Wonka for one of their new tracks I feared the worst, but in true Way Out West fashion the track is an absolute belter. The sample fits perfectly and the production that surrounds it is exceptional. Probably one of my favourite tracks on the CD.

Right, Disc 2 is nothing like CD1 and in my opinion it’s a great thing. Bushwacka! – Beastman starts things of with style. It’s a great tribally, bass heavy track and again sets the rest of the mix up nicely. Hernan decides to get down right electrofied on this disc. It’s full of electric techno gems. Leading on from Beastman comes two great techy proggers. Luke Chable continuing his current concept of electro chic on Union Jack’s – Two Full Moons and A Trout. Something i’m not too keen that Luke’s persisting with but the track is actually really good. As we reach the middle of the mix, Marco Bailey is providing the techno backbone of the CD, another tight production from techno don Bailey. The highlight of the disc for me though is Nick Muir – I Feel Real, I’m not sure how much Cattaneo adds with the edit but the track truly kicks your face off in style. Brilliant.

Overall, if you’re a Cattaneo fan you’ll love it. If your not you’ll probably start liking Cattaneo because of it. It’s a wicked mix which is worthy of it’s two disc status. Where as many two disc compilations feel like two 1 hour mixes, this refreshingly feels like a full 2 hour Hernan set.

5/5
