Bassbin Twins vs Marine Parade – 2CD – Review

Ok, first things first I am a HUGE fan of breaks and a HUGE fan of Marine Parade.

That said, I wasn’t expecting much from this album. When the album was first announced there was no tracklisting available and the blurb Marine Parade had scribed on their website didn’t really sell it to me.

A bit daft really, its a breaks compilation featuring most of the artists on my favourite label.

Anyway, time passed and a tracklisting was released along with further details on the album. It was after seeing this information and the artwork that I knew I would have to own this CD.

It is now that I can announce the ownership of this album… and it is immense.

The album consisting of two discs contains all the Marine Parade classics (ok some have been overlooked, but we can’t really moan about that!). The ‘mix’ features few vocals with lot of emphasis on having it big!

The first CD is just an outright party on plastic. You’ve got the gorgeous ‘rocky’ sounding breaks with tracks like, Evil Nine – Crooked, Adam Freelands – Heel & Toe and No Love – Disconnection mixed with the typically UNKLE-LIKE (in a good way) sounds of Forme – Kick a Hole and whole feast of other variations in style for the remainder of the disc.

The CD shows the evolution of modern breakbeat, with breaks merging a selection of rock-like sounds and hip-hop beats to create the sound that gets the dancefloor’s bouncing week in week out.

The second CD is not mixed, and is a selection of ‘dj friendly’ tracks featuring Tsunami One & BT – Hip Hop Phenomenon, Ils – Music, Apex – Symmetry, Evil Nine – Devil Stuff, Ils – Next Level, Freeland – Burn the Clock and many more!

Basically, if you enjoy your variation in breaks and love the sound and style of Marine Parade, you’ll enjoy the second disc.

I’m more a fan of a mixed disc and it’s probably not suprising that CD1 is my favourite, granted I can’t pick fault in the second disc at all. It features all the energy of the first disc, obviously with each tracking having longer intro’s and outro’s.

At a firm £9.99 this album is a must for anyone into breaks, variation or dance music on a whole. Well recommended!!
