Swain & Paris – Tyke’s Groove Review

Tykes groove is the latest release for Audio Therapy, a label that has already extablished its self as one of the solid houses of good house music.

This time it’s Swain and Paris that get the sounds pressed. The Original mix sits pretty on the first side, starting off with a solid kick and shuffling percussion and the introduction of some bleepy detuned synths that stick around for the rest of the track. It’s not long before the solid driving bass of the track drops in, this for me is the pull of the track. There isn’t much of decent melody or big hook to this track, it’s a bass heavy throbber and a proper dance floor tune. The break comes and helps to build some more energy before dropping back into the awesome bassline again. Overall the original mix is a solid techy house track and the highlight of the release, definitely one for the club.

The Paul Jackson Mix on the other side however is a massive let down and an appallingly lazy remix effort. The energy and drive of the first mix that really made the track is complete lost, the same sound and feel is there but the mix is boring, slow paced and with absolutely no reason to get excited what so ever. If it had been me, I wouldn’t have bothered with the remix. I’m usually keen on hearing all things Paul Jackson, but Paul this is rubbish mate. I really don’t know what happened.

You can check out the original mix on our latest BeatBox podcast, and it is definitely worth checking out if you like your house, solid, groovy, bleepy and tripped out. But don’t expect big things from the flip.

5/10.
