Here at Therapy we like to think of ourselves as one big happy family. Well, for the most part anyway. Like any other family, we have our dysfunctional moments, regrettable drunken scenes after one too many sherry’s at Xmas and so on and so forth, but all that’s beside the point.
One very integral member of our herd is our ultra hip cousin from across the pond (sic), Habersham. Born in Iran and raised mostly in Atlanta, Georgia and known to his parents as Damon (pronounced Damone as in The Ramones) Fonooni, he first stepped into the spotlight on our Therapy Sessions Volume 1 compilation with the classic `Transparent Sound’ and quickly followed that with the sublime double header of `MEHS’ and `Dryspell’ which had the likes of Nic Fanciulli, John Digweed and Slam getting all sweaty palmed and generally foaming at the mouth.
Which all brings us rather neatly (or not as the case may be) to the here and now and this rather splendid EP you have in your sweaty mits, lovingly titled `Outside the Box’. If twisted electronica of a slightly nervous disposition is something that you, in any shape or form, like to enter your stratosphere, then this is for you.
From the slightly warped main room action of `Aceide’ to the cinematic oriental beauty of `Hours’ and the uneasy schizophrenic twitchiness of `Where’s my Guitar?’, Habersham makes soundscapes that might even make Tom Yorke feel a little squeamish. Infact, quite simply, it’s the best thing to come out of America since the news of George Bush’s humiliation at the mid term elections.
The boy’s got class and then some. Enjoy.
