Hi Chris, how you doing today?
I am good thanks. I have been keeping busy in the studio writing new material and spending some time at home. Moved house not long ago so been decorating… been enjoying it actually as I was dreading it!
It has been a crazy year for you so far, have any particular moments stood out?
For me the highlight of the past year was watching Rising Music develop into a stronger record label. I really enjoy being involved in the label and trying to find new tracks to put out. I get a buzz out of breaking new music.
What is your biggest achievement so far?
I guess getting into the top 40 with “Changes”. It was never the plan when I first made it but it happened and I am proud of it. It will definitely be something to tell the Grandchildren.
Tell us about your new music projects? You have a new single out soon? Tell us about it?
Yes I have a new single that I wrote with Emma Hewitt nearly a year ago called “Carry me away”. It’s very housey and quite progressive; I have been really excited about getting this record out for some time now as I think it is one of the best things I have done, and Emma has an amazing voice.
How did you find Emma Hewitt?
My good friend Jonny Williams who used to work with my Publishers put me in touch with her so I invited her up to Scotland to record and this was the result
The track is quite different from “Changes”, was this deliberate?
Well yes I don’t want to make the same record really! I just make records and see how they turn out. If I tried to make a typical “Changes” follow up I think I would have restricted myself far too much.
Who is remixing “Carry Me Away”?
I chose the remix package for this deliberately. I just wanted the remixes to be by artists and friends I respected so I could be happy with all mixes, so I got remixes from Sébastien Leger, Micky Slim & Funkagenda, and the Aston Shuffle
You are releasing it on your own label, Rising Music, which is going from strength to strength… what are your plans for Rising Music?
I just want to keep signing more artists for the Rising Trax sub label which is developing strongly, and keep writing my own originals to release on Rising Music. I have some new singles ready which again I am very excited to get out.
You have a sister record company now called Rising Trax, what is the difference?
Rising Trax is now mainly for tracks I sign from other artists. Forthcoming we have tracks by Rene Amesz & Peter Gelderblom, Kingclip, Jaymo, and my main man, Micky Slim
What have you got coming up in the next few months?
Lots of studio work and more touring within the UK and Europe.
What does the future hold for Chris Lake?
If I could tell you that I would be a rich man! I do plan on making my first album so I guess look out for that in the next 12 months
When is “Carry me Away” being released?
“Carry me Away” will be out on the 14th May 2007 on Rising Music.
Many thanks for your comments Chris, we at iBeats appreciate your time!
