Cicada – Beautiful (Electric Blue)

cicada.gifStage invasions at their first London show, 5000 capacity gigs in the middle of English forests, and a barnstorming performance at Glastonbury have been but three of Cicada’s many highlights of 2007. `Beautiful’ is their hotly anticipated new single.

Following the likes of CSS and Spektrum, Cicada is the next indie dance band to fall in love with. Following a slew of limited edition singles, they released their debut album on keyboardist Alex Payne’s own indie label, Critical Mass, in 2006, which has shifted over 15,000 copies to date with no marketing muscle and, at the time, any entry to the live circuit.

Fast-forward to summer 2007 and the Cicada comprising guitarist Aaron Gilbert (also known as Mr Natural), keyboardist Alex Payne, and Icelandic vocalist, Heidrun Bjornsdottir (formerly of Gloss and 4AD’S Gus Gus), is about to break big.

The first half of the year saw them playing alongside the likes of The Beastie Boys, DJ Yoda, Cassius and Cut Copy on an Australian festival tour, then return to the UK to continue writing the next single. Following sell-out dates in Europe and Russia, Cicada set out to a muddy Glastonbury and brought out the sunshine with an acclaimed set in front of an audience of tens of thousands. The same weekend saw them continue a series of 4-5000 capacity gigs in a number of English Forests.

The Whodini `Magic Wand’ sampling `Beautiful’ has been a staple of their live-sets over the summer, and is one of their strongest singles to date. The release coincides with a special London headline show at Cargo on 20th September, before they embark on yet more international tours.

Remixes comes from Michael Gray, with stunning vocal and dub mixes, the future noise of Mr Miyagi, Aaron’s First Floor mix, and extended and instrumental versions (previously known as `Electric Blue’).
