Ladies and Gentlemen, here comes the next single from AMB. Of course, that’s not what his mother calls him. His real name is Ambrus Deak and he’s from Hungary, although now lives in London and has been making some rather splendid pieces of dance music for a few years now. Australia’s finest label has signed a series of superb singles from AMB and here’s the first one.
“Minifunk” is a deeply hypnotic melodic groover that mutates and explodes into a gloriously energetic funk-fuelled dancefloor destroyer that will be crossing any house genre divides with ease. Meanwhile “Picker” doesn’t hold back and launches straight in with an irresistible swing to its beats as it ups the funk factor in a much more bold as brass style. Make no mistake, these are both big tunes!
Based in London, but with roots in Hungary’s Chi Recordings, Ambrus Deak a.k.a. AMB has been in music production, engineering, and label management for over seven years now, and is steadily making a name for himself. He is co-founder and a fundamental cog in Chi Recordings but has also appeared on React’s 21st Century Breaks, Distinctive’s Y4K Dave Seaman’s Audio Therapy, and on Australia’s finest label EQ-Grey.
AMB was responsible for one of the most remarkable breakbeat tracks of 2002, “Romeo”, which was voted into second place on Breakspoll, The International Breakbeat Awards, in the “Best Single” category in 2003. When he’s not making music or spinning records, he puts on his mastering suit or makes soundtracks for commercials, theatre and the film industry.
As a DJ he has played in the USA, UK, France, Germany, Russia, Croatia, Serbia, Hungary alongside such luminaries as The Chemical Brothers, Adam Freeland, Hybrid, and many more.
With more tunes to come, AMB is one to watch in 2008. Remember the name.
