Mauro Picotto Interview

mauro-picotto-4Mauro, thanks for your time… What have you been doing recently? DJ wise, production wise, lifewise.
Mixing, making and compiling the Meganite Ibiza album on BigInIbiza and organizing Meganite parties in Ibiza, Mykonos and Italy, plus the first Meganite arena at a festival, in September at this years Planet Love, Belfast. Djing all over, having my new child and flying a lot then flying some more.

Your new album Mauro Picotto presents Meganite Ibiza, describe it in 20 words…
Electronic house music with new tunes & new remixes, full up of energy and emotion and very me.

Lizard man, still Lizard man or are you some other kind of creature?
Still lizard man, always lizard man

Meganite, Why your own party as opposed to playing other people’s parties?
Because I felt was time to create something new and fresh for me, so I could select the DJs I wanted to work with and create a new style I like, not just doing gigs and feeling less excited about it, but doing my own event being 100% responsible for it and really going for it. I sink or swim on how I do.

How has the closing of DC10 and changing of the islands music policy affected yourself and Meganite?
Didn’t have any affect at all. Meganite’s still as strong as before, if not stronger. I attract clubbers from all nations and nothings going to stop them coming.

Flying. You got a few air miles?
Yeah I’ve collected a couple of million air miles, I spend most of them on luxury holidays.

Time off. Do you have any? If so what do you do?
Stay home look after my babies and enjoy the quietness, it’s nice to take time off and spend it with the family but I am constantly on the move from home to Ibiza via London then many other cities all over the world. I usually take between 6-10 flights per week.

Favorite all time tune?
Diabla by Funk d’ Void

Current massive anthem?
(Gonna Get Ya) Picotto vs. Papini, of course. It’s the bootleg between the massive Church of Nonsense tune and the Gonna Get Ya vocal.

You recently had 2 children. You just discovered sex?
Don’t worry, I’ve got a TV in all rooms of my house now!

Vinyl, CD, Final scratch?
Tracktor for my longer sets but CDs for Festivals as there’s often so many technical problems. Tracktor offers brilliant opportunities to use your collections imaginatively and intuitively more than any other way. You can quickly call up tunes from large catalogs cos you just had a blinding flash of light idea. Its great for long sets.

How are you finding the international clubbing scene, and which country in your eyes is the most thriving?
I found it’s really good at the minute and the country I love is still Holland for so many reasons! :-) I’m always amazed at the love I get from so many fans from around the world and it makes the work so much more enjoyable. My Meganite parties in Ibiza continue to be so much fun and I recently played an F1 after party which was pretty amazing.
