The seminal Italian label re-launches with two hot new singles from Francesco Farfa…
Francesco Farfa has announced that his seminal Audio Esperanto label is to begin releasing music again, 10 years after it was originally conceived. The label was formed around artistic and political ideals that are as vitally important to the future of dance music today as they were a decade ago, and with much of the dance scene in a very volatile state of flux now, it is time to re-open many discussions about attitudes challenged by the Audio Esperanto ethos.
Audio Esperanto was born in 1997 and fathered by one of Italy’s most respected DJ/Producers, Francesco Farfa. For Farfa it came as a necessity, or more accurately as an act of urgency: to fight the barriers of restrictive musical categorization. In the middle of 90s the only way to be acknowledged was to belong to a scene, to a particular dance music genre, fitting properly into the set of rules dictated by the specific trends. Farfa felt that this atmosphere was stifling people’s artistic endeavours.
Having always been a huge supporter of eclectic music and a keen lover of music across the 360° spectrum, he decided that the time to give a wake-up signal had arrived. Thus he cracked open a door. Audio Esperanto was born as an expression of a completely new approach. Audio Esperanto took up the position of reminding people that music is before everything a universal language. In short, music needs no categories, no barriers, no impositions, no limits. This was a risky route to take, but was the only possible way for Farfa, an artist that has always lived as an outsider compared to the trendy scenes. He gradually managed to win respect and esteem, and results surpassed all expectations by taking the famous “one more step furtherâ€.
“Audio stands for everything that is sound, while Esperanto is correlated with the universal idiom. Wide ideas, different and carefully selected ideas, taking no impositions from the scene, but giving proposals to the scene, and only when the heart and the mind are ready to do it.†– Francesco Farfa
Four EP’s in 2 years, great attention from the international media (who soon started to talk about the “Phenomenon Farfaâ€), and the support of major international DJ’s, from Danny Tenaglia to John Digweed, saw Audio Esperanto establish itself at the forefront of musical creativity. Then, after 2 years the record label stopped. Farfa moved to Barcelona, breathing new air, and started to collaborate with the label Serial Killer Vinyl. Here he found his own dimension and decided to “hibernate†his beloved artistic freedom project.
Now, in 2008, Audio Esperanto is back, 10 years after it was originally conceived.
Many things happened during the gap years: Farfa travelled around the world as one of the most respected international DJ’s, released his debut album and several EP’s and remixes, but once more things are changing. After a long period of commissions, openings, collaborations, over the last few years the dangerous barriers that Audio Esperanto has always wanted to fight against have started to rise again. For this reason, in a time when the major music industry is in crisis, Audio Esperanto has come back, with the same desire to challenge the conventions, stirring things up and giving music a new lease of life with a series of projects that will be unveiled over the coming months.
