London veteran Ashley Beedle brought house music to Notting Hill Carnival and his initial production as Black Science Orchestra on Junior Boys Own broke him internationally. Since then he has developed a hallmark of stylistic diversity, from collaborating with Talking Heads legend David Byrne on the X-Press 2 single ‘Lazy’, to world-class remixes of the likes of Elton John’s number one hit ‘Are You Ready For Love’, Bob Marley’s ‘Get Up, Stand Up’ through to recent hits such as DJ Mujave’s ‘Township Funk’.
April March was discovered on Myspace by Ashley’s colleague Chris Butler. Ashley decided to license the original of ‘Attention Cherie’ purely to get his clever remix mitts on it – the result being the Heavy Disco Vocal Dub which takes the gentle pop anthem to a new realm of disco-hazed euphoria.
‘Attention Cherie’ will mark the re-launch of Ashley’s acclaimed Out Hear Audio imprint. The label started back in 2006 by Ashley as a vehicle to release his own productions; a creative outlet giving him free range to release the music he loves making. ‘Attention Cherie’ is the only track by an artist other than himself to be released on Out Hear Audio. And for the first time the entire back catalogue – gems from London Heavy Disco Revue and Ralph Und Beedle – will be available to purchase digitally. Look out for the exclusive mixes ‘Unabombers Vox’ and ‘Heavy Discomental’ which will be available only on download only.
Despite the accidental discovery of ‘Attention Cherie’, the April March vocalist Elinor Blake is not without her own accolade; aged 20 she was sought out by Allen Ginsberg and avant-garde film maker Harry Smith to assist them in their efforts to record the birds of New York. Of late, Quentin Tarantino, Gus Van Zant and Alexander Payne have each used her songs in their films, and she has worked with Grammy-award-winning producers The Dust Brothers. All this plus seven albums under her talented belt it’s no wonder the French consider her a national treasure.
The B-side mixes are provided by Ashley’s special friends Unabombers (Luke Cowdrey and Justin Crawford) – pioneers, promoters and long-time residents of one of the UK’s longest running club nights, ‘The Electric Chair’, whom were more than happy to jump on board and sprinkle their magic, the result being two additional explosive floor gems that make this the remix package of 2008.
