Richard Dinsdale – U-Turn

trt0052-packshotRichard Dinsdale, a pioneer of delivering driving underground sounds to clubs worldwide now arrives at the plate to release his debut album to the global following of Toolroom Records. Dinsdale’s fine tuned offering showcases his well honed dancefloor sound, cleverly incorporating ingredients of multiple genres, both in and around the dance music spectrum, a skill rarely found in the over saturated market of dance music artist albums. Since the release of Dinsdale’s own Toolroom Knights volume, remixes for the likes of Lot49 and Renaisance and Global Underground, Richard now returns to his well polished platform of all things deep and driving, this time delivering the masterpiece that is U-Turn.

Album highlights include opening track, ‘Sonica,’ a deep, pacy dancefloor chugger with smatterings of uplifting melody alongside a heavy, pulsating bassline. Uneasy arpeggios conduct their melodic business from start to finish in ‘Let Yourself Go,’ as Viveen Wray’s anthemic vocal verse crescendos in the foreground. ‘Hole In One’ conjures flashing post 4am memories amidst synthesised bleeping and staccato FX hits whilst ‘Up and Down’ features an abrasive 80’s style synth hit driving the track’s focus into slamming old skool drums and a catchy female vocal drop. Working around the sampled ‘just drop out of school and become a hooker’ vocal, ‘High School Dream’ fires a combination of strained white noise bursts, zesty, bit-crushed lead licks and thumping kick drums straight out of your hi-fidelity speakers, adding another solid offering to the ever-growing Toolroom artist album collection.

In a highly competitive market Dinsdale can evidently holds his own, showing extraordinary sonic efficiency and a versatile understanding of the dancefloor, whilst crafting a record that is as at home cued up in a club environment or your car’s CD multi-changer. As a new year rolls around, this is one Toolroom release that you can not afford to miss!
