Sista Widey – Want It

sistawideywantitThere is a new Sista on the block – the orijahnal Sista of Jamaican funk – Sista Widey! Coming at you like an ‘imitable hardcore uproar war cry’, ‘Want It’ is a blend of Jamaican lyrics that has been fused with some of the freshest sounds from the most well-known knob twiddlers in dance music…Tom Middleton and Shur-I-Kan.

The Jedi master, Tom Middleton steps up to the task with a mix of grinding Ragga electronic b-lines coupled with Sista Widey’s gritty vocal – an absolute potent mix. Retaining elements of Sista Widey’s Jamaican Reggae roots, this is proper dirty and dubby. Sista Widey’s strong songwriting is apparent and the electro dub is infectious. Picking up the pace, Tom throws in some drum n bass beats which get your pulse racing. Proper Peak time wind your waist choon!

Shur-i-Kan’s take of ‘Want It’ provides some ethereally elegant atmospherics. With a nice 4/4 beat, the track is the antithesis of Tom’s remix. With a subtle percussion and a dark, moody overlay, Shur-I-Kan doesn’t keep any of the vocal. The track is a pre or post club beauty! Delicate synths, and old school flavours – this is one for you house heads out there.

Not content with just 1, Tom Middleton throws in another mini mix that keeps the Sista’s roots alive, simple and dubby. A head bobbing track that is reminiscent of the dark and sweat clubs getting your freak on!

Not one to be outdone, Shur-i-Kan rises to the challenge and serves up a nice ‘intelligent’ drum n bass mix. Sista Widey’s vocal is perfect against this backdrop, with nice heavy basslines, smooth beats and a nice end to this tidy package.

Expect big things from this Sista – an album is in the pipeline with collaborations from the likes of Freerange legend Jimpster, Ursula 1000, Palmskin Productions and Skank Sinatra – also joining forces again with Tom Middleton and Shur-I-Kan. Keep you ear out for the 2nd single which will feature a remix from man of the moment, Milton Jackson and other highly sought after producers.
