Quivver – Is There Anybody Out There (BOZ031) Review

bozbozBoz Boz keeps marching on in 2009 having already seen ‘Experiments in K Minor’ and Lank’s ‘Twinge’ pass us by, we are now treated to another gem as Mr. Graham programs his magic on ‘Is There Anybody Out There’.

The original oozes the Quivver trade we’ve become accustom too, a thumping kick, some detuned stabs and filtered percs usher in the honky tribal that Quivver fans now adore. Driving bass throbs on with more effects and the “is there anybody out there” tagline introduced, atmospheric sweeps and a droning synth compound this dark workout.

Almost as commonplace as Quivver on recent Boz Boz releases, Lank returns to add his inevitable twist. The Thunderous Mix begins much deeper with more delay and sustain on the sweeps and stabs, every aspect is more compressed even the vocal heavy filtered and repeated. Plenty of cowbell keeps it tribal whilst tight builds keep dropping the groove. The main lead gets hooked in with a kind of Indian vibe pronounced – memories of Paris & Sharp’s ‘Aphrodite’ flood back. Slammin stuff and at over nine minutes in length, somewhat epic.

The additional production on this package is sublime, Austin Leeds’ tribal sound is perfect for this application and this time he brings some stunning euphoria also. Lush housey stabs create a groove perfectly punctuated by deep, hands in the air pads. One for terraces this summer for sure!

One Of Them takes us deeper with a solid tech-house movement, a wicked plonky rhythm that will have warm-ups rocking in every club. Entirely opposing, the Android Cartel offers up an imposing techno monster – a rolling lowend, spaced out stabs and a killer build ultimately provides another winner.

By far the best Boz Boz release this year and considering the back catalogue the Boz brigadiers have already established in 09’, that really is something.

9/10.
