Audioriver: 7 Reasons To Visit Plock, Poland

With only a few days to go before the end of the first phase of advance ticket sales, we are proud to officially announce that James Holden, Chase & Status ft. MC Rage, Crazy P (live), Gui Boratto (live), Ulrich Schnauss (live), My My (live) and Joris Voorn will, in addition to the previously unveiled names, be visiting the picturesque beach in Plock this summer.

“Despite all the contempt I hold for statements like ‘this artist needs no introduction’, if I were to choose one for whom I could make an exception and force myself to actually use the phrase, that artist would undoubtedly have to be James Holden. A true innovator, always 3 steps ahead of the rest of the pack in the studio, Holden’s style has for years now been copied by literally legions of other producers. And how does he fare in the DJ booth? Well, each and every one of his gigs in Poland went down in history as legendary, and it wouldn’t be all that difficult to find several hundred clubbers who would without a moment of hesitation concur with me whole heartedly”, says Lukasz Napora, Audioriver spokesperson.

One of the many artists who has been compared to Holden in the past is Gui Boratto. But he, unlike numerous others, managed to form his own, unique blend of modern melodic techno. And his two fantastic artist albums and recent Essential Mix are hard proof that the Brazilian is one of underground electronic dance music’s key players.

Modern would also be the perfect word to describe Joris Voorn’s sound. A few months ago, he gave the scene a jaw dropping, two disc effort at a mix compilation with his ‘Balance 14′ on which he mixed and sequenced no fewer than 100 tracks!

“We pretty much instantly fell in love with Voorn’s album. As was the case with Chase & Status‘ LP. ‘More Than A Lot’ is a terrific drum & bass record filled with an abundance of hip hop and RnB flavor. It’s no wonder it was Juno Records’ top selling CD last year, as half of it could easily be played on standard radio stations. But don’t get me wrong, this in no way means that it has anything to do with the commercial side of things!”, says Napora.

Another duo that will be making the trek to Plock this time around is MyMy. Even if only one half (namely Lee Jones) of the production team were to be confirmed that in itself would have more than likely made quite a few house heads happy. But obviously the guys behind the fest wanted something extra special and went out on a limb to piece together a line up of the highest quality in 2009.

Returning once again to commercial radio potential, Crazy P aka Crazy Penis also managed to squeeze a plenitude of it onto their last studio album. ‘Stop Space Return’ is a perfect example of how much new disco has evolved more recently, so get your hands on the album, give it a few listens, and come to Plock for their highly engaging live performance.

And what about this year’s cherry on top? Ulrich Schnauss, whose music simply can’t be mistaken for anyone else’s, will also be part of the line up. To be blunt, the ambient legend’s ‘A Strangely Isolated Place’ and ‘Far Away Trains Passing By’ should alone be reason enough to hit the beach for Audioriver’s fourth edition.
