R.E.Z. – Sunderland EP

Emerging from the outback and lining up to follow in the footsteps and emulate the success of the the Wombat – Helo Remixes EP, Australia’s Open Records are back with another stellar release – this time, by fresh Dutch duo R.E.Z.

R.E.Z. are Bart and Martijn, two brothers from Amsterdam who found themselves in the middle of the early days of the dance music revolution in the Netherlands. The temple that was The Roxy burnt down, but from its ashes grew a lively and inspired progressive and techno scene that they now both feel uniquely connected to.

R.E.Z. gained notoriety with their progressive and techno sets around their home town, and engineering studio projects for DJs on many big name dance labels, before deciding to carve their own name on the scene over the past few years.

If you’re already an Open follower, you will no doubt remember the stunning deep R.E.Z. remix of SQL’s “Lactose” released on Open earlier this year? The “Sunderland EP” is a killer return to form from the brothers, and let us assure you that this is well worth checking out!

Opening with the moody and melancholic deep progressive vibes of the Original Mix, the brothers also offer an alternative Strings Attached Remix with a slightly more sunny and emotive festival vibe.

Bus Records head-honcho D-Sens out of France also comes to the party with a storming techno interpretation, which is perfect for the peak-time dancefloor, completing another killer release in 2009 from Open Records.

The “Sunderland EP” is a worthy addition to the hard-drive of any collector of forward thinking electronic dance music.
