the CAMP (City Arts & Music Project)
70 – 74 City Rd, London, EC1Y 2BJ
Following their daring, roving location policy, so far taking in the cavernous Brixton Academy, an intimate Stoke Newington basement, a stunning Shoreditch loft and many more, the next Need2Soul goes down at the new venue on everyone’s lips – the CAMP (City Arts & Music Project). Expect a very fine soundsystem and a care and quality-infused environment, tailor made for underground fun.
Kristian Beyer & Frank Wiedemann AKA Âme shot to worldwide fame with the utterly unique leftfield house anthem ‘Rej’ and have since graced the world’s best festivals, clubs and labels with their modern take on the classic house/techno/soul axis. Anyone who’s been ‘party’ to their perfectly-pitched sets or heard one of the many acclaimed mix CDs will attest that an Âme gig is not to be missed. And for anyone who foolishly hasn’t had the pleasure – now’s your chance. Expect to find them on a par with (or surpassing) their influences, which include luminaries Moodymann, Masters At Work, Blaze, Morgan Geist and Underground Resistance.
Marcus Worgull started playing piano aged six, played the drums for eight years, was in a school band, sung in a choir and has been partying since he was fourteen. Worgull spent a large chunk of his youth in the renowned German record store Groove Attack, regularly imbibing rare soul, jazz, hip-hop and house, and now owns the store, currently based in Cologne. To this day, Worgull finds the time to soak up classics alongside brand new tracks. The quantity and lifelong duration of his musical osmosis then feeds back into his own masterful productions.
Edinburgh-based Firecracker recordings artists Linkwood, plus House Of Traps perfectly encapsulate the Need2Soul sound in 2009/10. Cooking up fresh new flavors from a sickly funky blend of future-retro disco, boogie, deep house, techno plus a general nod to the cosmos, these rising underground stars are quickly moving from recognition into renown and we predict, towards adulation. Trevor Jackson, The Unabombers, Derrick May, Carl Craig, Stacey Pullen, Lindstrom and Recloose amongst others are all fans.
