John Butler Trio release their second single ‘Close To You’

Following an incredibly successful UK tour which saw John Butler Trio sell out some of the most prestigious venues in the country they are releasing their second single, ‘Close To You’ taken from their latest album ‘April Uprising.’

Butler outlines the meaning behind their chosen single: “Close To You is about a young man hitting the wall, realising that the life he’s living is not the one he wants. As much as he wants to break out, get away from everything, he goes back to the one he loves.”

Following the release of their fresh and thought provoking album, Butler feels his song writing is at its strongest: “When we started mixing, the question we were asking was, ‘Is this a great song?’ I don’t care how cool the rhythms are, how amazing it sounds. Even an instrumental has to have a voice that holds you and carries you through light and shade. If you have the voice then you have a song. And then you’re saying something.”

John Butler Trio are one of the most successful artists in Australia and never fail to disappoint when regularly playing to crowds of over 7000 people. Their increasing popularity doesn’t stop there, the trio have sold over a million albums worldwide and have played the most prestigious festivals ranging from Big Day Out, New Orleans Jazz Festival, Glastonbury, Fuji Rock Festival and Coachella.

‘April Uprising’ is woven together by many of Butler’s musical influences ranging from roots, rock, reggae and hip-hop beats to dancehall. ‘Close To You’ provides another sound snippet of how diverse and talented John Butler Trio are.
