Tiesto In Search Of Sunrise 6 Review

Tiesto In Search Of Sunrise 6 Review

Beginning with cascading ocean waves, the placidity of Tiesto’s sixth In Search of Sunrise installment – this time, centering on Ibiza – establishes its placidity with neither hesitation nor much effort. Ibiza, the `White Isle’ of trance music, is the most idyllic locale for Tiesto and his fans to seek the sunrise after a beautiful night of music and dance. By the album’s location alone, I was confident from the onset that this mix would be something that would at the very least rival the best of his previous ISoS efforts; I don’t think my assumption was wrong, even though…

The Thrillseekers - Night Music Volume 2 Review

The Thrillseekers – Night Music Volume 2 Review

I’d initially mentioned that The Thrillseekers (A.K.A. Steve Helstrip) had created quite a high bar to surpass with the release of Nightmusic V.1, which is an amazingly strong album. From the moment I placed the first disc (Plus365) into my stereo, I quickly realized that not only had Steve surpassed his previous high-quality bar, but had arguably pole-vaulted clear over it. In the race for what I consider to be the best [Trance] album of the summer. I place Nightmusic V.2 amongst the top three contenders for the title as I see it.

Plus365 begins with a Thrillseekers original, “Waiting…

Anjunabeats Volume 5 Review

Anjunabeats Volume 5 Review

I’ve come to terms with the fact that the linear progression of Anjunabeats albums has been nothing but an ever-increasing line of quality and stealthily mixed productions. It is almost hard to believe that the ethereal “Air for Life” single & brilliant “Tri-State” album were only the foundations for this group’s amazing efficacy at administering the hottest new trance songs of the years gone by. The 5th Anjunabeats Volume is unique, relative to its predecessors. For one, it is the only Anjunabeats volume with two discs; purportedly, this was because the DJs had just *too many* fantastic tracks to condense…

Global Underground Mixed Review

Global Underground Mixed Review

GUMixed is a mixed (pardon the pun) bag, no doubt about it.
Following (and inspired by) GU’s successful GU10 comes a nicely packaged three disc (or four, depending on whether you buy the limited edition) mix of unreleased/exclusive tracks and an ’88-’95 retrospective, which is all well and good and certainly unique, but not without a few caveats.

The first disc begins very, very strongly with `An Evening With Bobi Bros’ by Trentmoller & DJ Tom > Tenaglia’s Island Groove Remix of `Dibiza’ > `Lovin’ (Your Body Remix) by Funk D’Void. In fact, the first CD is peppered with…

Freeland descends to the Underground

Freeland descends to the Underground

Best known for his in-your-face breaks, and not having made a double mix CD in ten years, it’s no wonder there’s been so much chatter surrounding Adam Freeland’s Mexico City GU. Admittedly, this is Global Underground’s only significant departure, along with Lavelle, from the dependable progressive artists who have collectively cemented the record label in EDM history. Freeland defies the odds and mixes a masterfully solid release that I believe will earn him at least one more go on the GU label in the future.

CD1 swoops into full-force with a progressive breaks/house cocktail, slowly incorporating rock and electro. It…

Azuli's Space Ibiza 2007 Review

Azuli’s Space Ibiza 2007 Review

Seeking a decent club mix to jump-start your summer nightlife? Spun the hell out of Eddie Halliwell’s “Cream Ibiza 2007″ already? Pick up the latest offering from Azuli Records, “Space Ibiza 2007″ – an ode to the (in)famous dance club located on the White Isle. Light, spacious and deliciously fresh, this album embodies the innate spirit of summertime with a thorough list of artists and some fantastic tracks to boot.

Kaskade’s funk-infused “Sorry” kicks things off, transitioning into the pleasantly moody “I Thought That” by The Migrants. Unlike Space Ibiza 2006, the 2007 release seems to seek a certain direction…

Eddie Halliwell - Cream Ibiza 07 Review

Eddie Halliwell – Cream Ibiza 07 Review

Eddie Halliwell’s genius is primarily housed inside his residency at Amnesia, Ibiza. But his talent has been expanding from inside the walls of Amnesia; Cream Ibiza 2007 is a full-fledged musical testament to this remarkable DJ’s feel for mixing fantastic club music, and while many of the tracks are obviously recognizable, Halliwell performs a musical lobotomy on the lot to create something worth purchasing. Ibiza-inspired mix albums have become about a dime a dozen in recent years, littering music shelves in stores worldwide; 2007 has proven itself a worthy year for the sounds of Ibiza made for compact disc (honorable…
