2nd Rhythmatic Birthday at Egg Review

2nd Rhythmatic Birthday at Egg Review

Since its inauguration in 2007, the Rhythmatic bandwagon has not stopped rolling. From their first parties at the seminal London club; Turnmills to their recent exploits at the Miami Winter Music Conference, Greek twins Kiri and Kostas Poulos have swiftly and firmly embedded their unique, soulful nights into the heart of the ultra-competitive London house music scene. To celebrate their 2nd Birthday, the diverse and stimulating trio of Gorge, Lemos (Live) and Kabale Und Liebe were invited to join the established ranks of Rhythmatic residents to participate in and enjoy what was shaping up to be a night to remember.…

Justice & Cassius present Club 75, Pacha Ibiza

Justice & Cassius present Club 75, Pacha Ibiza

Justice has never stuck to clearly defined roles. The fashionably thin, intensely Gallic duo of Gaspard Augé and Xavier de Rosnay manage to both embody and defy stereotypes. They are intense in a well-educated, laconic, smoky Parisian sort of way (“we smoked 30,000 cigarettes making this record,” they said of debut album). Yet their music pops with rainbow colours and kiddie-friendly choruses. Without ever courting the music press they snared the world’s attention by upstaging Kanye West at the MTV Music Awards. The hip hopper’s onstage temper-tantrum ensured their notoriety to an audience that might never have noticed them otherwise.…

Pure Pacha Review (24th July 2009)

Pure Pacha Review (24th July 2009)

Chandeliers float elegantly above an impenetrable fog of dry ice. It puffs away in a cool breath letting the light fall on a sea of upturned faces. “This is Pure Pacha!” Sander Kleinenberg whoops from the DJ box, raising both fists in salute. The girl next to me bursts into a flurry of elbow-popping motion as Sander slams on a remix of We Are Your Friends that thunders across the dance floor like a charge of the Valkyries. Pure Pacha is the quintessential Friday night party in Ibiza – a mélange of music, spectacle and moments that simply wouldn’t…

Pohoda Festival 2008 - Review

Pohoda Festival 2008 – Review

The Festival trail is a pretty well trodden path these days, however there’s a whole wealth (and world) of celebrations of summer and music out there and searching them out is part of the magic. An event that has been building over the last 12 years in Slovakia and now making waves in the UK and across Europe – The Pohoda festival takes place over 2 days every July. So, like any self respecting festival goer – off we go in search of some new festival highs…

Flying into Bratislava, the Slovakian capital then heading south for an hour by…

Circo Loco, Rome - Review - 24/04/2008

Circo Loco, Rome – Review – 24/04/2008

On approaching Sallone De Fontane, you are totally impressed. A huge palatial style venue, grand pillars support its front and ornate fountains decorate the foregrounds. Green and Blue lighting swirls all around, and it’s not long before the disco is in full swing.

Circo Loco’s sell out pre Ibiza season shin dig here in Rome has an unfaultable line up, and the excitement in the air tonight is truly infectious. The only seating area is in VIP, so a full night on the mammoth dance floor is commanded, and this is no difficult feat. As the clock strikes midnight, Tania…

Fabric turned 8. But how was it?

Fabric turned 8. But how was it?

Fabric birthday’s have become a pretty legendary affair, and the 8th one tonight is no different. A smiling bouncer in police dress, topped with a flashing helmet greets. Winding down the abyss of stairs, patrons meet with floor staff pushing bins full of free beer and fancy dress. Soon everyone is in full party swing…

Mathew Johnson’s ensemble Cobblestone Jazz plays live in room 1; they bounce off each other with improvision blending percussion, piano, atmospherics and bass lines. Bodies quiver to climax against the almighty sound system. A fine start to the evening!

Across in Room 2, Black Devil…
