The Mixmag Tour 2008 will share with clubbers across the country the very best artists and DJs from the pages of the world’s biggest and best dance music magazine.

The UK’s top clubs will provide the backdrop for the most exciting acts from across all genres of dance music.

The emphasis is on young, fresh, exciting talent, uncompromising production and most importantly, a series of unforgettable parties.

After all, it’s what we do.

The huge launch party will take place on October 17th in The Egg, London (originally planned for Pacha Beyond).

Due to unforeseen circumstances at Pacha London, the Mixmag Launch party will now be held at the finest clubbing haunt in King’s Cross – The Egg. The event, which will now be spread over four rooms as opposed to two, will have a larger spectrum of DJs and acts performing live and exclusively at the event.

The Egg nightclub has kindly given Mixmag access to hold an event over the whole venue AND also the Apothecary next door, for this unique chapter in Mixmag’s 25 year history.

Being renowned for its legendary carry-on after parties, we are delighted to reveal that the exclusive Mixmag event will be a special 12-HOUR MARATHON!!!

Starting at 10pm on Friday night and carrying on until 10am on Saturday morning, a truly unmissable night is on the cards as we invite you to run amok in the Loft, Basement, the electric Middle Floor and the Garden outside.

Being London’s largest outdoor clubbing space, the infamous Garden is also heated and now a regular feature in all of Egg’s post-6am antics.

A fully-extended line-up will be announced soon!!! Watch this space…

World renowned international DJs and producers, Steve Lawler, Tiefschwarz and Audiofly are confirmed to join forces for the landmark VIVA MUSIC TOUR this Autumn. The North American tour dates kick off in Montreal on October 16, 2008 and finishes on November 1, 2008 in Miami.

Sponsored by leading electronic music website, Beatport, a state of the art music studio will be installed on the tour bus. All three artists will be creating original music and remixes while on the road which will be released later through Lawler’s label, Viva Music and distributed by Beatport. Beatport will also provide marketing and daily coverage of the tour on their website, Beatportal.com.

Steve Lawler explains, “We will be touring across the United States and Canada on a tour bus, but what makes this tour unique is that all the artists, myself, Tiefschwarz and Audiofly, will have access to a studio on the bus, and will be making an EP of tracks together. It is very exciting to know that when we finish a gig and we are all hyped up from the crowd, we can continue to create music once we are on the road to our next destination. What better time! And five heads are certainly better than one, I think some really amazing music is going to come from this. With a line up of amazing venues with great sound systems, and the studio set up on the tour bus, I am very excited about this tour.”

Ali and Basti from Tiefschwarz continue, “Staying on a tour bus is something new for us but we love the idea of jumping into the bus right after the show and getting on the road to the next city right away – no driving to airports, no check in, no stop-over, no security lines. Then to have the chance to work on music together in the studio on the bus is an amazing opportunity.

All of this will help increase Tiefschwarz’s profile in America and in the electronic music community – it’s great to see how the scene is developing over the last few years!”

Antony Middleton from Audiofly adds, “We are delighted to be included in this tour line-up. It’s a rare and pleasurable opportunity to spend good times with good friends in the industry, as well as doing the thing we all enjoy the most. Looking forward to many good moments.”

One of the city’s favourite destinations for discerning clubbers, AREA 51 mixes it up with line-ups of international big-hitters, original innovators and hot future prospects – united in a quest for to the bring most mind-blowing house music to the Manchester massive.

Since its launch in February, AREA51 has achieved its aim of pulling in a friendly crowd of up-for-it punters to get down all night (and morning) to the sounds of the cream of electro, techno and house – it’s often still rammed at 9am!

Add to the mix an earth-shaking Funktion One system and you’ve a recipe for one of the dirtiest knees-ups in the North West since the Hac was in full swing!

6th September – Sharam Jey (King Kong, Underwater Records) & Residents
Germany-born Sharam is the first global name AREA51 welcomes through its doors in September. The King Kong records boss peddles a grubby blend of electro, techno house and whatever else he fancies, and his new album, ‘4 Da Loverz’ is due out on the 19th September on Darren Emerson’s Underwater label. Jey will be ably supported by the AREA 51 residents.

20th September – Hook n Sling
With recent Hook N Sling tracks like ‘The Best Thing’ doing the damage the world over, his slamming remixes for labels like Cr2 and artists like Stanton Warriors, this is hyped as one of THE dates of his UK tour.

In launching this new sphere to The Thrillseekers activities, Steve Helstrip says:
“I’ve been approached many times to present a radio show. With the NightMusic compilations & tours now well established, I think the time is perfect to do it. In 2008 I feel that the music is bigger, better and more exciting than ever – I want to take another route to reflect that, and the NightMusic Podcast is the way!”

Lee Coombs has been at the forefront of the electronic music scene for the better part of 15 years. He’s released groundbreaking mix CDs, remixed the world’s most acclaimed artists and knocked out dancefloor destroying productions considered classics years after their release. While often associated with the Breaks genre, this labelling does not begin to tell the entire story. A boundary-less approach is truly Coombs’ trademark and he’s famous for mixing up breaks, house, electro, techno and acid with dexterous assurance. Prime example: Lot49 Presents: Lee Coombs

For this compilation, Coombs has pulled out all the stops, digging deep into a treasure trove of breaks, house and techno and pulling out pure gold. Opening with the rocking drums and simple catchy riff of Coombs & DJ Icey’s Duo Drive The Ride, the mix shifts effortlessly through an electronic landscape taking in earth shuddering basslines, deep brooding grooves and a blatant disregard to genre boundaries. Here. Offerings from Tiga’s Turbo label sit alongside productions from German wunderkind Oliver Huntemann and rough breaks and bass from Dopamine rub shoulders with the house sound of Guy Gerber. Amongst the gems is an unreleased Meat Katie remix of Alloy Mental and the much sought after No Hits from Black Mountain vs UNKLE.

Lot49 Presents: Lee Coombs is just one of several new releases this Producer/Remixer/DJ has planned for the next few months. In October top breaks label Fingerlickin’ Records will release Coombs’ The Future Sound of Retro 2008 remixes and include the track on it’s 10-year anniversary compilation. In November, Lot49 Records will issue Lee Coombs feat Katherine Ellis Control. The package is set to feature three remixes and will be available in both vinyl and digital formats. Looking towards 2009, Coombs looks to offer his collaboration with Uberzone entitled Right Now and plans on the release of his latest original artist CD. While still dancefloor focused, Coombs views this album as his most ambitious project yet. It will feature a range of tempo from 100 – 128 bpm and collaborations with the likes of Meat Katie, Seasunz, Katherine Ellis, Uberzone, among others.

Further proof of Coombs’ versatility and talent as a producer arrives with his own bangin’ white label remix of Meat Beat Manifesto classic Radio Babylon. Call it what you want, but this one truly kicks ass.

The Festival trail is a pretty well trodden path these days, however there’s a whole wealth (and world) of celebrations of summer and music out there and searching them out is part of the magic. An event that has been building over the last 12 years in Slovakia and now making waves in the UK and across Europe – The Pohoda festival takes place over 2 days every July. So, like any self respecting festival goer – off we go in search of some new festival highs…

Flying into Bratislava, the Slovakian capital then heading south for an hour by road, we cut through beautiful scenery including the biggest field of sun flowers known to man, before arriving arrive in Trencin, where Pohoda (pronounced PO-Hoda) is held. Trencin is in the central Váh River valley near the Czech border, it has a population of more than 56,000 and an impressive medieval castle, that holds court perched high up over-looking the festival site.

The line ups are awesome of course, but what made this different to the other great festivals world wide? Where are the “quirks” going on that the locals said we “have to check out”? Looking up and then to the side, there were little pockets of stuff going on everywhere, stuff we wanted to get involved in – 165 feet in the air there was a bar, with a giant board room table and swivel chairs, all sounds pretty average – that is apart from the fact it was just that, just the bar, tables and chairs, its not actually a building and its suspended by a crane, rotating 360 degrees giving its brave sitters a birds eye view of the impressive site, historic castle and surrounding mountains. Strapped in roller coaster seat style sitting around a boardroom table suspended in the air, simply taking in the view and drinking a beer was surreal to say the least.

In honour to the Fat Boy Slim appearance, there was a ‘Praise you’ dance off, inspired by the genius Spike Jonze music video. The dance off consisted of a giant marquee and the ‘Praise you’ video repeating on giant screens, dance instructors went through the dance moves and everyone got involved following the instructions. Watching so many people do that dance is as hilarious as it is infectious, you could see people standing around the edges not sure if they wanted to get involved, but after a couple of minutes seeing how much fun people were having the temptation proved too much and everyone joined in (yes us included, so I hope there aren’t any photos!)

Check out what Virtual festivals called “the most surreal moment in festival history” here.

It’s almost a festival ritual that you don’t actually see that much music, you walk around trying to find lost friends or get stuck in a muddy traffic jam of people. But well thought out programming and a site that isn’t as vast as a small county, gorgeous weather and absolutely no mud meant this wasn’t a problem.

Beth Ditto’s Gossip were their usual impressive selves, punk rock attire and even more punk rock attitude as Beth stormed her way through crowd pleasers ‘Yr Mangled Heart’ and ‘Standing in the way of Control’. Bravely the band also did previewed 4 brand new songs from material they are currently working on, Beth commented “some of them aren’t even fully finished yet but we wanted to try out something fresh”; half way through the set she stops to check on a member of the audience after noticing something out front, calling out to him “please just let us know you are ok sir” ahhh

Travelling internationally for a festival fix is surely the next step for the well versed festival goer, combining exploring new destinations with a great music event. At Pohoda you can see the type of acts you’d hope to see in England, plus open your ears to something new. From the sunrise choir, to crowd surfing with the bands, taking part in a 5,000 strong dance off and much more Pohoda really provided some special moments.

Mark Doyle and the Es Vive team have been working together since 2001. Their relationship has produced 10 amazing compilations including the “The Base Bar” series and the stunning “Es Vive” series. This year Fierce Angel returns to their favourite address in Ibiza for another 3CD mix of the Fiercest Ibiza anthems. Each CD provides a different flavour of the worlds coolest island and the island’s hippest hotel. Compiled and mixed by Mark Doyle the CD has been fine-tuned with the assistance of hotel owner Jason Bull and Fierce Angel Ibiza resident Ben Santiago.

This years CD features the amazing artwork of Jason Cook alongside model Louise Cliffe, their combined efforts have produced a unique set of images that capture the essence of Fierce Angel, Es Vive and Ibiza!

CD1 is a much more laidback affair than previous years with a return to a proper Ibiza chill-out selection. The first CD features Fierce Angel regulars rubbing shoulders with some hot new artists; Eric Kupper has remixed Peyton & Robina into Fierce poolside anthems, Chris Coco has provides two absolute Ibiza moments from Liquid Sunrays & City Reverb and the CD is completed by an exclusive collaboration between Fierce Angel friends Zak Radak and The Lovely Laura. This deep house anthem is the perfect finish to a sun-drenched selection of daytime chill.

CD2 moves into dance-floor territory in preparation for a night on the town in Ibiza and where better to spend it than at the legendary Base Bar. This little bar in Ibiza town has entertained some of the biggest names in dance music and continues to be the only place to start a wild night out. The mix begins on a funky tip with offerings from Sam Sparro, Freemasons and Gusto then toughens up with future anthems from Ultravibe, Prok & Fitch and Stonebridge & Wawa.

CD3 is a taste of Ibiza’s best-kept secret, the hottest late night bar in Ibiza’s hippest hotel The Smirnoff Experience Bar at Es Vive! This mix is a much darker twisted affair and reflects the sound of Fierce Angel in full effect at 6am. The mix begins in deeper electronic territory with offerings from Satoshie Tomiie, Axwell, Pryda and Shapeshifters then notches up the madness with tracks from Kris Menace & Spooky and Alan Braxe. The CD closes with 3 absolute anthems from Meck, The Potbelleez and Dirty South. Each one is a hands in the air Ibiza moment and the perfect way to capture the atmosphere of Es Vive!

Fierce Angel is in residence at Es Vive each and every Saturday and the opening weekend had it’s own share of Ibiza moments including Jason Bull going on the missing list before a TV interview, the theft of Shane’s beloved motorbike from outside the hotel and argument about just how many spiders you swallow in a year …Only in Ibiza!

The team at Fierce Angel and the team at Es Vive have the same philosophy a belief in building something more than just a business venture while doing something they love. We would like to thank everyone at Es Vive for all their support and hope this CD reflects a little of magic this summer has to offer.
