We’ve only had one rule in the Evil Nine studio over the years and that is NO SAXOPHONE; it would appear that this rule has now been broken. It’s been a struggle trying to find acceptable examples of saxophone use and so far we’ve only come up with ‘Careless Whisper’ & Nomad’s ‘Devotion’, hopefully ‘Auto’ will be the third.

The lead track from the EP is a little more stripped-back than our last few releases but again includes heavy classic house, techno, post punk, italo disco and UK garage influences whilst also bringing something new. We’ve also kept to the Evil Nine tradition of working with our favorite rappers, this time with our friend B Dolan (Strange Famous) who provides the main hook to ‘Auto’. On the imaginary B-side we’ve got a remix from the awesome Broke One whose music just keeps getting better and better. He turns our original into a big old rave-stabbed bangggaaahrrrr.

We’ve always loved the ‘Donk’ synth sound and have been trying to include it in a track for a while; finally we succeeded by squeezing it into the second track from the EP ‘Silent Runner’. This one comes off a little more UKG than the other and ends up sounding a bit like Reel 2 Real’s ‘I Like To Move It’ (but not really), we thought seeing as ‘Auto’ was more minimal we should do something with a big riff to go along side it and this has a big riff in it.

Lots of love, Pat and Tom.

ps. As a gift to our readers here is a link to to download the new For Lovers Mixtape – Part III ‘Love In A Cold Climate’. The tracklist is below.

Spooky return to Renaissance with a brand new, updated version of their famed classic…

First released in 1993 on William Orbits legendary Guerrilla imprint, ‘Little Bullet’ is arguably one of the defining tracks of its generation; it’s influence and status has grown year on year as it continues to remain a fond favourite of DJs and clubbers alike. And it’s this enduring appeal that influenced Charlie May and Duncan Forbes to revisit the tune, albeit with initial trepidation as Charlie honestly admits, “We weren’t sure whether to re-work Bullet. Some things are best left alone.”

“However,” says Duncan picking up the conversation, “There was no harm in trying, so after locating the parts amongst a pile of DATs (which some may be amused to learn were the current studio door stop!), we decided to have little experiment and play around…”

The result was nothing short of spectacular and the duo swiftly realised it deserved a full release. Shot through with the classic sound of modern day Spooky, ‘Little Bullet’ is reborn in full contemporary techno glory. “Sound systems have come a long way sine the record was conceived and LB 2010 has been produced with these developments in mind,” they explain in unison.

One listen and it’s plain to hear they’re not kidding, this re-loaded Bullet is armed with a devastating bass line, whilst its synonymous pad and vocal now come with accentuated goose-bump beauty. Even the harshest critic will find it hard to argue this is one track that really does make the hairs on the back of head tingle. If further confirmation were needed just ask all those who were lucky enough to be on the floor at Bedrock’s Easter extravaganza at Matter during Digweed’s set.

The Israeli house movement continues to develop…

Guy Gerber, Guy J, Shlomi Aber, Itamar Sagi, Miss Fitz have established Israel as a hotbed of dance production talent in recent years. Now this fine tradition continues as Renaissance proudly introduce legendary Tel Aviv-based DJ Sahar Z, resident of Haoman 17: the biggest and most prestigious club in Israel. He now follows-up 3 past releases (one of which boasts an incredible Gui Boratto remix) with a devastating homage to the Detroit sound and Carl Craig in particular.

Alongside friends and production partners Audio Junkies, who are comprised by the brothers Daniel & Joe Rave, they have been making a name for themselves as pioneers of the Israeli dance scene and are now getting the international recognition that they undoubtedly deserve.

‘Beyond Detroit’ contains all the motor city hallmarks: house-stabs; a beautiful, haunting pad and a driving techno kick. As with many of the tracks from its genre-influence, ‘Beyond’ will no doubt find a home in a broad cross section of DJs wallets. One example is Sasha, who included it in his recent ‘Thank You Mix’ and, following the play, set message boards ablaze as eager listeners attempted to ID the track.

The tunes wide-reaching appeal is further enhanced as it appears in two guises, the peak-time ‘Original’ and ‘After Hours Mix’, the latter being a collaborative effort between Sahar Z and DJ / producer Guy Mantzur. Guy is the co-owner of the Munich based label Plattenbank, forming a formidable duo with Sahar Z and creating a remix that is perfect for earlier floors or those dark, late night / early morning moments when the wobble has well and truly kicked-in!

Sahar Z Vs. The Audio Junkies – Beyond Detroit is out now at Beatport, and all good digital outlets.

Deconstruction Records is back. In a joint venture between Sony’s Senior Vice President of A&R Mike Pickering, one of the label’s founder members, and Three Six Zero Group’s AnD press, the dance imprint has returned with a series of back catalogue releases before signing new artists later in the year.

The label’s first re-release is Sasha’s ‘Xpander’, digitally re-mastered at Abbey Road and available via Beatport for the first time in original and 7” versions. Following this will be Lionrock’s ‘Packet Of Peace’, complete with the seminal Chemical Brothers’ remix.

A decade on from its original release, ‘Xpander’ is considered one of Sasha’s most enduring ‘classics’. Co-produced with Spooky’s Charlie May, its instantly recognisable synth lines still send dancefloors into raptures, and as a much sought after piece of vinyl on ebay and other collector sites this digital release should appease global demand.

Sasha needs little introduction. Britain’s most iconic DJ and producer remains one of the most enigmatic figures in global dance music. Last year’s Invol2ver album was met with widespread critical acclaim, and on the production front his new label emFire has become a go-to stable for his own music. His recent remix of Doves’ ‘Jetstream’ will soon be joined by re-workings for Pole Folder (‘Hate Myself’) and Damian Lazarus (‘Spinnin’). He will shortly embark on a North American tour followed by Australia (see www.djsasha.com for details).

RELEASED 5 OCTOBER (BEATPORT)

Rhythm Is A Dancer is already getting plays from Kissy Sellout on Radio1 and support and nods from Who Made Who and Trevor Jackson, with it’s analogue warmth and 80′s pads, the classic hooks filtered like crazy, and vocals stripped back to keep the essential anthemic attitude intact.

Sander Kleinenberg’s ultra hot Little Mountain Recordings is back with its latest release entitled This Is Our Night.

Little Mountain Recordings has previously brought you releases from artists such as Max Graham, Patch Park, Rene Amesz, Funkagenda, Muzikjunki, 16Bit Lolitas, Cyro and and from Mr. Kleinenberg himself of course. It is a label that successfully straddles quality underground dance music with tracks that have plenty of potential to crossover to become anthems in their own right.

This Is Our Night is the brand new single taken from the highly anticipated forthcoming studio album (due Feb/March 2010), and has been causing maximum impact for a select few DJs the world over, and in particular for Sander in his sets. The catchy lyrics, infectious hooks, pumping bassline and overall production quality will ensure that this track will be a smash from Ibiza to Ireland, Berlin to Buenos Aires and London to Lima this summer. It really is a standout peaktime track. We at Little Mountain Recordings are now delighted to announce its full release.

This Is Our Night is Sander’s official follow-up to This Is Miami on his own label and a real continuation of form as you would expect from this much-travelled Dutchman who is at the top of his game. Indeed, Sander’s forward-thinking approach to the scene, in particular his desire to embrace the Pioneer DVJ setup, also adds another dimension to the Sander club experience. With a highly-effective video clip that Sander has of course road tested in sets from Pacha to Ministry and far beyond, expect this track to sell by the bucketload after giving clubbers that extra visual dimension in peaktime clubland. Additionally, however, this track fits perfectly into straight-up club sets, and is also ideal for widespread radio play.

The release, with remixes from Rene Amesz and Ned Shepard, is the first part of a two part release. This Is Our Night has an ultra-hot 2nd package forthcoming. The second package follows a month after the initial release. On remix duties are Dutch talent Rene Amesz, American Francis Preve and of course this year’s man of the moment, Deadmau5.

Guy Gerber’s universally embraced single on Bedrock Records ‘Stoppage Time’ became a stand out anthem of the year at the likes of Cocoon at Amnesia and DC10 in Ibiza along with Secretsundaze in London, when it was first released in 2004. The single surpassed the 5-digit mark in sales a long time ago and continues to shift units to this day, and has appeared on numerous compilations from artists as diverse as B-Pitch Control’s Kiki, Francois K, Wally Lopez and Sven Vath.

With a number of outstanding remix interpretations released previously alongside the definitive original, now in 2009, Guy Gerber creates a 13 minute monster groove version in his Reshuffle guise, whilst rising French star Danton Eeprom takes a deeply dubbed out approach with stunning results.

Stoppage Time 2009 style is a definitive BIG TUNE – there’s no question about that!

Wild Sound is a massive peak time hit with a stomach churning bassline, teasing percussion and thunderous stabs. Techy to the core; this is a musically dense trip that is dynamic enough to keep you hanging until the very last beat.
