Evil Nine - Auto EP now available on Beatport!

Evil Nine – Auto EP now available on Beatport!

We’ve only had one rule in the Evil Nine studio over the years and that is NO SAXOPHONE; it would appear that this rule has now been broken. It’s been a struggle trying to find acceptable examples of saxophone use and so far we’ve only come up with ‘Careless Whisper’ & Nomad’s ‘Devotion’, hopefully ‘Auto’ will be the third.

The lead track from the EP is a little more stripped-back than our last few releases but again includes heavy classic house, techno, post punk, italo disco and UK garage influences whilst also bringing something new. We’ve also kept to…

Robert Babicz - Pink Trees EP Review

Robert Babicz – Pink Trees EP Review

Robert Babicz’s productions and remixes spanning the past decade have made increasingly impressive ripples in the gigantic pond known as German techno – moreso, I am inclined to believe, than his work in the days of ‘true’ acid house. I am unable to accurately estimate the number of times that I have played out Joris Voorn’s remix of Babicz’s “Dark Flower” (quite the lovely track in its own right), and Babicz’s Disco Universum remix of Gui Boratto’s Mr. Decay is another personal favorite of mine.

That having been said, “Pink Trees” took a bit longer for me to appreciate. Its…

Nyquist - Otagu Review

Nyquist – Otagu Review

Nyquist drops a particularly strong and rich tech house track with the Iboga Records release, “Otagu.” Crafting sounds that weave between and amongst Progressive House, Tech House and Techno concurrently is no easy task; the track has true innovation supporting it. Not surprisingly, then, “Otagu” is able to drive home a wicked pulse lain atop surprisingly smoothly sweeping rhythmic bass. Percussive clasps and mid-tempo clashes give this track an internally chaotic nature that is rich with cymbals and laden with groove. “Otagu” is freshly produced tech house with elements as unique, perhaps, as even its own name.

Perfect Stranger’s remix…

Omid 16B – Lilly & Poppy EP

Omid 16B – Lilly & Poppy EP

A brand new decade brings a brand new track from SexOnWax. Recently debuted on the much applauded SOS Ministry of Sound compilation ‘MOS presents SOS’ (released Feb 15, 2010), Omid’s new track ‘Lilly and Poppy’ is, typically, the kind of track that will never tire. For sure, the kind of track that will never grow old, or ugly. The kind of track that will never feel out of place, whether it’s heard at home, in a club, or even if it was re-imagined within a movie. In fact, in trademark 16B style, it’s teeming with cinematic qualities. Elevating. Heart-fluttering. A…

Sasha / Charlie May – The Midnight Eclipse EP

Sasha / Charlie May – The Midnight Eclipse EP

Taken from the critically acclaimed Invol2ver album, ‘Eclipse’ and ‘Midnight’ get the remix treatment from two of the most exciting producers to emerge in recent years – Butch and Nhar. Personally selected by Sasha following his support of many of their own productions in his sets, both have delivered incredible interpretations…

Butch’s take on Sasha’s Ray LaMontagne collaboration is a furious slice of tech-house. “The original ‘Eclipse’ is quite deep,” explains Sasha, “So when we decided to have it remixed, we wanted to take it up a few notches, both to offer variety and make it suitable for those peak…
