“Oh! We seem to have started a record label; well it doesn’t actually sell physical records but it releases music in a futuristic method we don’t quite understand. We couldn’t think of a name for it so just took the title of one of our old tracks ‘For Lovers, Not Fighters’ and shortened it to ‘For Lovers’. We think it works quite nicely: A: It’s self referential B: It’s a wonderful sentiment and C: It represents us and our target audience perfectly.

To celebrate the new label we thought we would give you a high quality download of Ultimo, for free. Simply go to www.for-lovers.co.uk and put your email address in the box (feel free to share with friends).

The Evil Nine studio’s been knocking out a huge amount of music recently; we’re incredibly excited about it and thought it was about time we manned-up, took matters into our own hands and started our own label to release it. ‘Ultimo’ and ‘Real Love’ are a tiny glimpse of the music we hold close to our hearts and now we have our own label we intend to show you the rest. We don’t have a vision for the label like most people would but what we do know is it’s gonna release music that girls like, that’s fun to write and fun to dance to in nightclubs, fields and horrible little grimey after-parties with your dirty little friends.

Both ‘Ultimo’ and ‘Real Love’ are full of ’90s house, Detroit techno, Italo, UK garage, Disco and Chicago house cliches but they’re good fun (Big Fun in fact) and that’s what going out is supposed to be about right? The release also includes a remix of ‘Ultimo’ by Dem Slackers, there’s only one of him and he’s very young, noisy and good.

Lots of love, Pat & Tom.”

Footnote, I can’t argue with the last paragraph, the sounds they describe are obvious; like the Evils say, “they’re good fun”! The Dem Slackers remix of Ultimo is dirty too!

Summer is officially here, nearly, and hot on its heels it is one of the most eagerly anticipated Hed Kandi titles of the year, Beach House. Hed Kandi’s Beach House encapsulates the feel of its spiritual home, Ibiza, and flies the flag for sexy, mid-tempo house with grooving Balearic basslines and sultry soulful vocals. The next offering however, falls on the milestone catalogue number HEDK100 so naturally, something extra special is in store. An ideal candidate for the 100th release, Beach House has a back catalogue littered with stunning material, so the inclusion of a third, mixed, classics CD is very exciting indeed.

The album kicks off with the sunrise disc and dives straight into upfront material from Strictly Rhythm stars; Daniel Bovie and Roy Rox with their remix of South Street Player’s (who?) Keeps Changing Your Mind. In a nod to the record’s crossover success, the remix looses none of the original lyrical power but the atmosphere is upped with brand new strings and keys. Man of the hour Dennis Ferrer features with a track from his 2009 catalogue, but Afterlife pitch it up slightly and bring it right down onto the beach with their reworking, switching the minimal melody line of the original with a much bouncier hook and of course, sundrenched percussion. Joris Voorn features with remix of Nalin and Kane’s Beachball, a track that has had its fair share of hysteria surrounding it this year and the godfather of House, Frankie Knuckles, teams up with main room junkies, The Shapeshifters, resulting in ‘The Ones You Love’, an infectious beach anthem headed straight for the biggest clubs.

Now the sunshine offering as CD2 assumes its status with a selection of Beach House classics, expertly mixed together and ready to serve! This CD features the quintessential tracks from Beach House history plus a few that just couldn’t be overlooked. Kandi favourites Fred Falke, Miguel Migs, Julien Jabre (with the unforgettable ‘Swimming Places’), Wez Clarke and Louis Vega all feature plus stunning material from Masters At Work, Moloko and the immortal Octave One with their hypnotic ‘Black Water’. So often, especially in the House sphere, the addition of a third disc can signify overindulgence, but not in this case. With an astounding amount of material to choose from, everything on this classics collection is carefully considered, with just the right amount of what’s recognisable interlaced with undisputed gems at their grooving best, this is the perfect set to start a party!

CD3 takes on the persona of the sunset disc and touches on a whole host of material from artists making their Hed Kandi debut. This is disc is nothing if not exciting and is testament to Hed Kandi’s shrewd ear fixed firmly on the global dancefloor. From Brooklyn to Berlin, the scene is rich with a deeper sound and these records are firmly rooted in soulful ancestry, transporting them effortlessly onto Beach House. First up, Crazy P transform Reboot’s ‘Enjoy Music’ into and effortlessly cool party number with the addition of an awesome breakbeat and Lisa Shaw provides stunning vocals on ‘Can You See Him’. Zev Eisenburg and Gadi Mizrahi from the eponymous Wolf and Lamb label both feature material. Zev’s track features the rejoiceful and powerful vocals of Beckford whilst Gadi’s track delivers striking piano progression and a vocal sample worthy of the gospel hall of fame. Hed Kandi’s very own Dean Rigg recycles Jamie Jones’ 2009 WMC bomb ‘Summertime’ with fantastic results, injecting momentum and reams of beach attitude with sundrenched marimba percussion. No Regular Play’s Smiling Faces features another unforgettable vocal with Soul Clap on the edit and the London based jozif works two tracks onto the compilation, first the carnival laced ‘Tiger Tiger’ and then Matt Playford’s mix of the hauntingly good Chicago. While this is further into the obscure than Hed Kandi have ventured recently, it definitely serves as a snapshot of Hed Kandi at its thought-provoking best!

First we must share with you that a baby was born in the Kitsuné family recently, he’s called Yumé – ‘dream’ in Japanese. This new album was thought out, conceived and put together whilst this young child was being breastfed in the room next door. So logically the toddler has had some kind of influence on the new Kitsuné Maison compilation.

Indeed here is officially the most snuggly, peaceful, motherly Kitsuné compilation until now – soft as cotton. In the midst of one of the worst winters Paris has known for a long time and with so many conflicts all around, we have been looking for calm and tenderness. As a result this new compilation brings you almost as much comfort as taking a newly born in your arms and giving him a cuddle.

That’s right, this is music babies can get into. A fully padded compilation that’s rather more candid, innocent and carefree than the norm, and which is still inviting the listener to shake his hips. The kindliness of a home (maison) forever opened to all kinds of ideas but that from then on also has to look after a child. Suddenly a new transversal approach shapes up with this compilation attractive to ears of all ages.

Rested, serene, more contemplative, with a selection that’s probably more geared at sunday afternoon than saturday night, more yuzu green tea than stupid alcopops. Sure there are a few hysterical sirens in the Jupiter track, but we asked for them to be toned down in order to keep the little one asleep.

Four tracks deep it is a mature and diverse representation of what will become the artist’s calling card – a deep ominous funk that combines bouncy percussion, rising bass llines, moody synths, and disembodied soul vocals.. a sound influenced by the energy of 80s funk and disco, the harmony and passion of 90s R&B and New Jack Swing and the dark corners of Detroit techno and Chicago house… and, as such is unlike anything else.

There would be no Culprit without Lee Foss.

The night was July 7, 2007, the setting – the famed Avalon night club in Hollywood, Los Angeles. Droog favorite Jamie Jones was about to play the closing set on the main stage, just as it finished its set on the Terrace. That night, as fate would have it, was also the first meeting between Lee Foss and Droog.

Avalon 4 AM..Jamie Jones unleashes a new brand of house music on an unsuspecting LA audience. Post Club 7 AM…We crawl back to Droog’s place and begin what by now seems like old hat; but not then, that day there was something fresh in the air as many of our now core crew of droogs and devotchkas got loose, for what some might call our first ever proper afterhours. Downtown L.A. 1 PM…Jamie plays an impromptu set at the famed Downtown Standard Rooftop, at that point a mystical locale where only Justin Sloe had graced the decks. Back in West Hollywood 10 PM… smiles on faces, a tangible feeling that..one could get used to this.

And funnily enough, from that point forward, an unholy alliance could be felt; like-minded souls from the United States over, whether from Chicago, Detroit, New York, or even Tampa; it really didn’t matter..slowly but surely a new generation of mobile youth began gravitating westward.

Now, some hundred Saturdays later, Lee Foss is set to unfurl his own sound, one developed through years of hard work in Chicago before even setting foot on California soil. Lee took a leap of faith, leaving his friends, his family, and his place as the most versatile DJ in Chicago (and four weekly residencies to boot) and moved to a city with a rich rave past but without much connection to the euro-centric movement in underground house and techno. Transporting his full studio to the (West Coast) Bunker and setting up shop, in the process laying the foundation for a new label and movement.

The UK’s underground dance music community rally together for Ellenor Lions Hospice (Kent, UK) with a 45-track compilation album of brand new tracks for sale as download.

To say thank you for caring so well for local young people with terminal illness, breaks music producer Simon Tagg AKA Kouncil House put the call out to his contacts book and created a block busting album of exclusive tracks from some of the world’s biggest acts. Released digitally through leading download store www.trackitdown.net in June on his respected ADHD Digital label. All proceeds raised through paid for download will be donated to the worthy cause.

Testament to the old skool empathy of the underground dance community and the power of the new skool digital era, 45 amazing breaks, house, dubstep and drum and bass tracks came flying in from such heavyweights as; Justin Robertson, Brookes Brothers, Slipmatt, Meat Katie, Krafty Kuts, Leeroy Thornhill and Deekline & Wizard.

“It’s a pleasure to be involved in such a great project in such good company” says acid house legend Robertson, while Brookes Brothers agree “[that] there’s not enough projects like these for producers like us to get involved in.”

Simon Tagg was also motivated by the recent and sad loss of his mother who helped inspire this payback project and he dedicates all the effort and hard work to her memory.

Ellenor Lions Hospice is based in Greenhithe in Kent and will benefit from any proceeds raised by the digital sale of this amazing package of cutting edge tracks. For many years they have worked in the local community to help people with terminal illness act in comfort and dignity, and all involved agree that this is a worthy cause; ‘it’s for a great cause and everyone should want to get involved’ states drum and bass godfather Mickey Finn.

Krafty Kutz: “Im just really happy to be involved with this, I take my hat off to Kouncilhouse”
Leeroy Thornhill: “It is for a good cause and there are some great names involved, a top album.”

Trackitdown.net is the UK’s leading dance music download store with well over 200,000 DJ’s registered as customers giving this project a great platform upon which to launch. Founder Ed Real states; “we really hope that every one of our customers and the wider dance music community seriously consider downloading this album – even regardless of the good cause, this is one serious set of tracks for the biggest acts on the planet!”

Format: Full-length tracks plus DJ Mix available in 320kbps and Wav file downloads.

25 May 2009 marks the release of ‘The Wired EP’ by Sheffield’s leading purveyor of red-hot underground house D Ramirez, on his own Slave imprint. Both original tracks ‘Wired’ and ‘Road Of Excess’ feature the vocals of LDV, a mysteriously anonymous star, also from the steel city. Remixes come courtesy of house and techno veteran Rob Babicz and D. Ramirez himself.

Already championed by Pete Tong on Radio 1’s Essential Selection, ‘Wired’ is Inspired by the artist’s home town of Sheffield and its industrial past. Heavy on the bleeps synonymous with the town, ‘Wired’ is dark and searing electronic house, featuring pitched-down vocals that recall that other home of machine-inspired funk, Detroit. The production is tight, the energy is unrelenting and the drops are heavy.

Second up is the masterful, Robert Babicz remix of ‘Wired’, a particular favourite of Ramirez that’s been a heavy staple on his recent storming sets. The aggression of the original mix is tamed and replaced with a deeper, housey groove, which teases out the vocals, dowsed in effects to create a trippy remake of epic proportions.

Not your average hedonistic dance music fayre, track 3 ‘Road Of Excess’ was inspired by the ramblings of William Blake no less. A hooky, twisted vocal from the undercover LDV, further provokes the question, “who is this man?” As tweaky and wonky as it is sexy, this is Ramirez at his best.

He still treats us to an extra solo D.Ramirez mix, though. It catches Ramirez in a vibe which sums up his current DJ sets perfectly. The energy is there, but there’s a sinister and deeper undercurrent which permeates the track, providing a real standout club anthem, which more than indicates the future of Slave, musically speaking.

‘The Road Of Excess’ originally featured on the Azuli ‘Headliners’ compilation which D.Ramirez mixed. It was one of the four singles that were written exclusively for the comp. ‘The Road Of Excess’ has been re-produced and re-mixed with a fatter mix-down and added drama in the breakdowns.

Each album in this series enlists the help of a producer, from a specific country to seek out out an exclusive selection of sounds from some of the areas most exciting talent. the package includes a cd mixed by the compiler & a dj friendly unmixed disc…Something for everyone & all tracks exclusive to Baroque.

SLOK uses his knowledge of the local scene to carefully hand pick some of most vibrant sounds, from both established and new artists alike. Alessandro Russo aka SLOK is an Italian musician, producer, dj and label manager who started his career with productions as forerunner of the Italian’s breakbeat / drum n bass scene, with his albums ‘They Call it Jungle’ and ‘Freak 2000′ produced for Irma Records. Later he changed his style to electronic sounds and his international hit ‘Lonely Child’ released on the Satoshie Tomiie’s imprint SAW Recordings boosted his profile.. releases on such esteemed electronic labels like Plastic Fantastic (as Stereonova), Get Physical, Acute, 4Kenzo and of course on his own ELECTRONIC PETZ MUSIC label. He also runs Magma, a syndication radio show, aired on 47 FM italian Radio stations.

He has toured the world as a dj , but when we came to selecting a local established & well-know dj in their native Italy…we looked no further than Slok!

D:Fuse & Hiratzka present their latest compilation album Clubbing in Lost Angeles (Vol. 1- Early Hours) featuring 11 carefully crafted tracks from the Lost Angeles Recordings studio bunker hidden deep inside the urban landscape of Los Angeles, California. This collection of sexy house and smooth progressive stand-out cuts creates a sonic landscape that challenges the status-quo of a disposable music culture. Each track is a carefully crafted, telling it’s own unique story and collectively building as a journey through Lost Angeles Recordings catalogue.

Clubbing in Lost Angeles weaves a path that is subtly epic, all together memorable, as it seamlessly interweaves club hits from the Lost Angeles catalogue like “Massif”, “Perfection” and “Everything With You”, with all-new gems like “Tobias” and new D:Fuse & Hiratzka remixes of Govinda’s “Can’t Forget The Day” and Nosmo & Kris B’s “One For The Road”.

D:Fuse & Hiratzka’s latest label compilation is a rather special find, a song based selection that explores a diverse landscape of electronic moods & grooves. It really is a exotic listening experience from start to end.

D:Fuse and Mike Hiratzka have been collaborating on studio projects for several years. After working together on D:Fuse’s last mix compilation (“People 3”), they toured a live show that featured D:Fuse DJing and playing an electronic drum kit and Mike Hiratzka on guitar, bass and keyboards. Together, both artists felt the next logical step was to do an album that would incorporate live instrumentation and electronic elements, as well as their own vocals, and so they created their “Skyline Lounge” (Lost Angeles Recordings) artist album in 2008. They now return with the next chapter in the Lost Angeles story.
