We’ve only had one rule in the Evil Nine studio over the years and that is NO SAXOPHONE; it would appear that this rule has now been broken. It’s been a struggle trying to find acceptable examples of saxophone use and so far we’ve only come up with ‘Careless Whisper’ & Nomad’s ‘Devotion’, hopefully ‘Auto’ will be the third.

The lead track from the EP is a little more stripped-back than our last few releases but again includes heavy classic house, techno, post punk, italo disco and UK garage influences whilst also bringing something new. We’ve also kept to the Evil Nine tradition of working with our favorite rappers, this time with our friend B Dolan (Strange Famous) who provides the main hook to ‘Auto’. On the imaginary B-side we’ve got a remix from the awesome Broke One whose music just keeps getting better and better. He turns our original into a big old rave-stabbed bangggaaahrrrr.

We’ve always loved the ‘Donk’ synth sound and have been trying to include it in a track for a while; finally we succeeded by squeezing it into the second track from the EP ‘Silent Runner’. This one comes off a little more UKG than the other and ends up sounding a bit like Reel 2 Real’s ‘I Like To Move It’ (but not really), we thought seeing as ‘Auto’ was more minimal we should do something with a big riff to go along side it and this has a big riff in it.

Lots of love, Pat and Tom.

ps. As a gift to our readers here is a link to to download the new For Lovers Mixtape – Part III ‘Love In A Cold Climate’. The tracklist is below.

Just like our previous For Lovers release ‘Ultimo’ we’re not holding back on the cliches or energy; that’s energy as in energetic music not the mystical and unseen force. ‘Stay Up’ samples a vocal from our buddy El-P’s song ‘Up All Night’, we defiled his poetic and politically charged vocal by chopping it up into a modern day rave chant to keep your motherfucking hands in the air. The track follows on nicely from Ultimo, Real Love and our recent remixes; this time we’ve gone a bit ravey but kept one eye firmly set on the future. Alongside the original we’ve got a remix by Mason who’ve done an excellent job, they’ve left in a lot of the original elements but still put their unique mark on it.

Read the nice words Mixmag had to say, plus check out a video of us playing it to 4000 Italian ravers in an old squatted fort in Rome.

The Evils want you…

So ‘No Manners’ Ft. Spoek Mathambo is about a stripper with no manners and we’ve got links to a shit-load of footage of old strippers or shit-loads of old footage of young strippers depending on how you look at it, either way they’re old now. If you fancy it we’d like you to edit the footage into a music video for us, whatcha think? If you don’t wanna use the footage but have the resources and a good idea you’re welcome to do your own thing, email your ideas/videos to weaintgotnobudget@me.com in fact email us at weaintgotnobudget@me.com if you have any questions or wanna discuss your idea with us.

If you’ve got any copyright free video’s of strippers you wanna donate to the cause add links in the comments section below.

You can edit it how you like but we do have a few stipulations:

1. I guess that Youtube won’t like us having loads of boobies in our video so cover them up with something or blur them out or whatever. (funny is good)

2. Most of the video’s have ass shaking in them, the video must have an ass shaking section in it. In fact, if you like you can make the whole video a compilation of vintage ass shaking footage ‘cos that would be awesome. Yep, definitely liking the just ass shaking idea….

3. Be creative and give it a sense of humour, have fun. We like the idea of it being like a vintage version of BOOTY SHAKING.

We’ll post the lyrics on the blog as soon as soon as possible, you can hear the track on our MySpace. Email us with you’re ideas at weaintgotnobudget@me.com and we’ll send you a low res version of the track with annoying speaking over the top so you can’t plaster it all over the internet, ha!

PANTyRAiD are Josh Mayer aka Ooah of The Glitch Mob and Marty Folb aka Marty Party. They make brilliantly futuristic hip hop and we’re really really excited to have them on the label. In their own words:

“PANTyRAiD is a true cross over project – hip hop, dub step, electro-crunk… all done right with hard booty shaking instrumentation”

Their new album, ‘The Sauce’ is out now…

The Sauce – Track by Track in their own words:

Crunkalicious
A happy crunk hop tune which keeps the dancefloor upbeat and flirty. True hip hop with a bass melody that winds its way through the song meeting various textures and surprises as it works its way to its conclusion. This track is a great party starter and a big favorite with the ladies. A deliciously crunky song.

Upset
A song that shows PANTyRAiD’s range. Straight up piano melody together with driving hip hop beat and catchy vocals. This song shows PANTyRAiD’s african and southern roots with a catchy melody that hooks you fast. Another upbeat happy song adding flavor and variety to the album.

Worship the Sun
An epic buildup and pure PANTyRAiD song with big bassy drops and broken beats. Starting with the tribal drum and bringing in the 808, this song has humble beginnings and conjures up a hedonistic sun worshipping party atmosphere. A great textural voyage from start to finish.

Dreaming
A elegant and cheeky downtempo song exploring the emotions of bass and sensitive drumming. This emotional rollercoaster shows the softer side of PANTyRAiD.

One Mo’
A big club banger, One Mo is about giving in to the temptation of the night. Starting with a developing bass melody, the song reaches a climax in a orgy of edits and bass wobbles. This song gets the dancefloor moving fast and hard and never gives in. A fan favorite.

Headcase
An escalating emotional road is Headcase. Starting with a humble whistle, the melody takes hold of the escalation, breaking into a glitch hop verse and reintroducing itself throughout the song. Headcase talks of the way a simple thought can grow large in our minds, creating confusion, panic, and then conclusion. The manic journey through our collective minds through beat, bass and melody.

Beba
Classic PANTyRAiD – BeBa is a pretty Hip Hop tune which gets down right nasty. A favorite with the ladies it pulls together the sexy mid tempo beat, classic electronic vocal hook, with a rich and heavy bass, together making a unique dancefloor experience. This song always gets the crowds attention and has become an instant club hit.

Enter the Machine
Big landscape song. Huge buildup with talking bassline, this song creates a wide open textural world, then immerses the listener into a bass speech, and then has a huge break drop into a full frequency crescendo, and then slowly unwinding back into an angelic dream world. This song is about the dawn of electronic music, and how the machine is taking over and entering mainstream music. The power of digital music is the theme of this song and it leaves the listener contemplating what more a song could have musically.

Too Fine To Do Time
A cheeky hip hop song for the bad girls. Gritty bass, pretty melody and driving hip hop beat keep the girls bouncing and moving through this tale of a naughty girl that has made some bad choices, but has no regrets.

Like That
A pure PANTyRAiD classic, an epic song developing emotion and intention at 65 bpm. Crossing every genre, Like That is a musical masterpiece playing rich saw bassline with pretty harmonic melody and effect. This is a huge favorite of rock music lovers and illustrates the power of bass and the how emotion and feeling can come from a well crafted bass melody.

Our Second Chance
A song for the earth at this sensitive time. A song of hope with a heavy bass metronome keeping the song moving through various melodic verses. Digital and acoustic instruments texture the voyage of hope and the relentless spirit of humanity. Just another illustration of the range of PANTyRAiD, this song often leaves listeners asking, how did they do that?

A brand new signing to exceptional but by no means new to the world of happening electronic music 10 Rapid fires off an opening salvo for the label comprising two brand new tracks that refuse to be ignored. If upfront and personal electronics heavily seasoned with insistent hooks is your thing then Minor Riot and Start Marching will surely more than satisfy your itch.

Minor Riot has everything you need for some serious dancefloor action. It kicks off with some mad demented strings closely followed by a throbbing evil bass line and the pressure just keeps on growing from there on in. It’s raw, it’s grungy, it’s bursting with energy. It’s rocked out electro at it’s finest. Partnering Riot is Start Marching which makes you want to do exactly that. It has enough stabs to make you bleed to death , always assuming it doesn’t kick your head in first of course

It all began when Mr R won the Marine Parade remix competition with his Stone Lions “Snow Over Arizona” mix. Adam Freeland certainly rocked it over sound systems worldwide with that one. A series dance floor smashes for Burrito, Neon Wax and Meat Katie’s ‘Lot 49′ followed. With a growing chorus of approval from Groove Armada, Cagedbaby, Streetlife Dj’s, Eddy Temple Morris and many more together with an assortment of Compilation album appearances including Ministry Of Sound and Technics everything most definitely been on the up and up for our man ever since

It’s not easy to pigeonhole the 10 Rapid sound, which we reckon is a good thing. It crosses over from big room electro-house cuts such as “The Touch” and his remix of Cagedbaby’s “Forced”, to more indie led tracks like “Sonic Weapon”. And there’s more – his remix of Digitalism’s “Taken Away” gained some serious respect from the French glitch ‘clique’. DJ magazine described his sound as “Justice in a washing machine ” but Mr Rapid is not worried about how he is categorized. He just wants to get everyone moving as much as possible and judging by the dance floor frenzy that has been unleashed with each of his releases so far that goal has already been more than achieved.

It can only get more mental from here on in, you have been warned!

They will make you laugh, yet tremble with fear. They will make you feel that the world has come to an end. They will make you question your own sanity. They will make you thirst for blood, for the taste of flesh—or at the very least, get you to dance your ass off like a motherfucker… “They” are Evil Nine, who are back from the dead with the release of their much-anticipated new album, They Live!, due out in late October on Marine Parade.

Don’t be surprised if They Live! does for zombies what Daft Punk did for robots. With stomping electro drums, ’80s Italian horror-movie synths, dirty punk basslines, and a wanton disregard for genre rules, the infamously subversive dance/electronic duo create an unstoppable soundtrack for the new zombie revolution, down to the gory horror-show cover imagery courtesy artist Dan Mumford, infamous for his sicko album art for Gallows and other punk/metal classics. The treats inside prove equally cinematic and shocking: the title track (and first single) pays irreverent homage to cult director John Carpenter’s classic 1988 sci-fi ghoulfest They Live with its ultra-catchy vocoder chorus (“They walk, they lie, they love, they live!/They wake, they fall, they cry, they live!/They fight, they fail, they die, they live!”). “We love that film and the weird, crunchy, stripped-down analog-electronic scores John Carpenter creates,” Beaufoy says. “I’ve had a massive fascination with zombie films since I was a teenager,” Pardy adds, “and it just seemed time to re-light the fire of the undead to spring upon the masses. After all, zombies are just like us—just give them a chance!”

The “They Live!” single offers a fitting introduction to the rest of the Brighton, England-based group’s new full-length—a worthy successor to their 2005 album debut You Can Be Special Too, one of the most acclaimed electronic albums in recent memory (“Just killer tracks,” VICE; “Assertive, chunky, majestic,” The Independent; “The Beastie Boys would be proud,” Q; “Best album I’ve heard in a long time,” Pete Tong; “Awesome,” Zane Lowe; “Album of the year by the hottest producers,” Eddie Temple Morris). For one, They Live! the album features a number of surprising collaborations, a tradition started by Aesop Rock’s blinding guest verse on …Special’s hit “Crooked.” Foremost is Def Jux’s radical mastermind El-P, whose brutal spitting transforms the apocalyptic slammer “All The Cash.” “We hooked up with him after our DJ set at Coachella last year and really got along,” Pardy says. “If there was one rapper we wanted to work with, it’s El-P. And he was up for something different: I don’t think he’s much of a dance-music fan, but he’s very open-minded musically.” Elsewhere, Beans (of Anti-Pop Consortium) turns “Set It Off” into a Goth-meets-hip-house burner, while David, vocalist of Kitsuné buzz band Autokratz, adds melodic New Wave melancholy to “The Wait.” “I’m not sure what David’s singing about,” Beaufoy admits. “I think it’s about getting laid after a gig and trying to slip away quietly to avoiding any awkwardness.” Additionally Seraphim (from Brooklyn indie-electro seditionaries No Surrender) and Bristol scenester Emily Breeze also make crucial cameos. “To us, Emily’s the female Danzig,” Pardy explains. “It was great having her make ballsy punk-rock-chick noise over us pretending to be a rock band. We always like to push people to do something completely new.”

Creating this army of like-minded iconoclasts is all part of Evil Nine’s plan to confound expectations. To that end, They Live! features pounding tracks that will work in any club, but filtered through unexpected influences spanning ’80s cock rock, The Cure, early Prince, krautrockers Cluster, Can and Tangerine Dream, vintage noise punkers Suicide and Black Flag, and newer sonic saboteurs TV On The Radio and Queens of the Stone Age. As such, “Behemoth” welds Timbaland rhythms to Black Sabbath heaviness; “Feed On You” comes out somewhere between Beverly Hills Cop and a phantom death march; “Dead Man Coming” loops soundtrack composer/Goblin member Fabio Frizzi’s theme from Zombie Flesh Eaters with ragga rudeness courtesy Toastie Taylor of U.K. rap crew New Flesh; “The Wait,” meanwhile, incorporates the experiments of Paul Lansky, the early synth pioneer whom Radiohead sampled on “Idioteque.” “He’s a mad Princeton professor who experiments with strange noises,” Beaufoy explains. “We’re obsessed,” Pardy says. “We can usually find something positive and inspiring about most of the music out there, we then fuck it up and twist it into our own thing.” Equally individual will be Evil Nine’s kinetic new live show: it features Pardy and Beaufoy singing and playing dueling bass guitars, synthesizers and samples onstage, along with an actual human drummer and a fittingly spooky visual phantasmagoria. “We want people to come to the shows dressed as zombies to add a Rocky Horror Picture Show element,” Pardy says. “We may even give away fake blood. We need all the help we can get—after all, we’re just two zombies versus the world!”

1 Feed on you
p: this song was the last we wrote for the album and it was destined to be the opener, it’s somewhere between a zombie death march and miami vice incidental music. go figure!

2 The Wait Ft. David Autokratz
t: we did a million versions of this track but when we added a sample of paul lansky’s crazy noises, thats when it came into its own . melancholy but strangely uplifting with dave going on about girls and being on the road , at least i think thats what he’s on about .

3 All the Cash Ft. El-P
p: if there was one rapper we really wanted to hook-up with on the album it was el-p and to our surprise it actually happened. he kills it as usual over our epic, brooding drone-rock stomp….

4 They Live!
t: featuring the vocal talents of pardytron, they live tells us about all the things “they” get up to in a roboty voice backed with beats as heavy as an elephant or a small bus .

5 Ngempa Guzom
p: have you ever wondered what zombie choirs mixed with a crunked-out john carpenter rip-off sounds like? No? neither have we but we created it anyway and named it after a bhutanese public holiday called ‘the meeting of nine evils’, we also spelt it wrong.

6 How Do We Stop the Normals?
t: for those heads down lost in music moments on the dancefloor . its all techno wiggles and jan hammer moments twinned with a super triumphant breakdown . roll up the sleeves on your suit and miami vice it up.

7 Dead Man Coming Ft. Toastie Taylor
p: fabio frizzi’s soundtrack to ‘zombie flesh eaters’ is one our favorite’s so we sampled it and stuck our buddy toastie taylor over the top for good measure. gruff, moody, hopeful…… emotional!

8 Set It Off Ft. Beans (Anti-Pop Consortium)
t: this could be the soundtrack to the bit in the film where the goodie walks into the vampire/zombie/alien nightclub and all the the baddies are dancing away and that . except normally the music in those bits is really shit and this is good ! its beans , of anti pop consortium on the mic ; setting it off .

9 Behemoth
p: im not sure where this one came from really, its probably the darkest piece of music we’ve ever written. it’s got that zombie death march thing again but this time we didn’t hold back on the death, epic as fuck!

10 Born Again
t: a moment of calm before the storm . a melody played on kazoos or bees turns into a miniature prog rock epic with pardytron singin his roboty heart out .

11 Twist the Knife Ft. Emily Breeze
p: it’s all lipstick, neon lights, fast cars and us pretending we’re in a rock band on this one. emily breeze is a fucking punk rock goddess, the reincarnation of glenn danzig except that doesn’t make sense because glenn danzig isn’t dead.

12 Luke Goss
t: nihilistic , antisocial , unrelenting , luke goss unsubtley smashes up the place like a monster truck derby in a china shop . its also contains our tribute to sonic youth with a wailing wall of feedback section . yikes !

13 Icicles Ft. Seraphim
p: we wrote this specifically to be the last track on the album, the epic last song, the emotional goodbye and thats just what it is. seraphim’s sweet, heartfelt vocal just pushes the point even further…….. goodbye!
