James Zabiela - Darkness EP Review

James Zabiela – Darkness EP Review

Darkness By Design has long been a track I’ve savored during live JZ performances. I was aware that, initially, James had no plans to release it. Seeing it finally achieving the spotlight it’s deserved for nearly a full year now makes me excited and willing to contribute my thoughts.

The Joy Divsion/Depeche Mode influence is undeniable, almost seductive. Whilst James produces the vocals for the track, you’d never be able to hazard a guess at their true identity given the level of deep and hypnotic distortion. The bass riff crawls and squirms with the same angst as would a Pearl…

James Zabiela’s Renaissance Masters Series Review

James Zabiela’s Renaissance Masters Series Review

Quite frankly I’m just pleased Renaissance flicked past the Dave Seaman and Satoshi Tomiie pages of their phonebook when they were shortlisting the DJ’s for the next Master’s Series. Not that I have anything against Dave or Satoshi and agreeably they are both indeed masters, but currently there is a stock of talented young DJ’s that have proven themselves as potential suitors to the Renaissance crown. The most notable and undeniably the most worthy of those is, of course, James Zabiela. The young apprentice has surpassed the hype that surrounded him following the endorsement of DJ royality and has established…

Renaissance Presents The Masters Series: James Zabiela Preview

JZ returns to his spiritual compilation home to confirm the mounting buzz surrounding his first Masters Series…

Ask anyone what their favourite compilations are and, invariably, James Zabiela’s ‘ALiVE’ and ‘Utilities’ will feature amongst them… Then, ask anyone what their favourite compilation series is and, invariably, ‘Renaissance Masters Series’ will also crop-up… Put the two together and you have the recipe for one of the most eagerly anticipated dance compilations of 2009.

“I’m delighted to step-up and join the ranks of The Masters Series,” says an ever-humble JZ, “It’s produced some incredible comps over the years and, albeit nervously (lol!),…

James Zabiela’s Renaissance Masters Mix Blog – Part 1

James Zabiela’s Renaissance Masters Mix Blog – Part 1

This is the story of my Renaissance Masters mix or, put another way, a few days in the life of me and my music. A random ramble that accompanies the mix should you, the listener, want a further angle into the depths of the music and sounds that can be heard throughout the CD.

I spent a month walking around with a microtrak recorder in order to make this CD a snapshot of life through my ears. I practically live in headphones, they’re permanently super glued to my head and I’m not often seen without them, whether it’s going to…

Roger Sanchez - 3D - Renaissance Compilation

Roger Sanchez – 3D – Renaissance Compilation

The legendary Master of House brings his unique musical vision to present another exciting chapter in the 3D series…

Whether it’s hosting and playing legendary 7/8 hour sets at his ‘Release Yourself’ parties in Pacha, Ibiza and around the world; compiling and mixing an annual compilation of the same name, or producing as himself or the S-Man, there’s no question Roger Sanchez is one of house music’s most revered ambassadors.

Aside from running his own label (Stealth), supporting house from the ground-roots up, Roger has also found time to remix some of the world’s best artists such as Madonna,…

Andy Chatterley & Clinton Brown - Sabotage EP

Andy Chatterley & Clinton Brown – Sabotage EP

Sabotage, a crisp and freshly produced techno venture, utilizes the vital organs of good techno: the kick, and the stabs. This perfect marriage of repetitive sounds is soon broken by washy synth lines and sporadic bass twists that morph amongst the series of thunderous beats. Sabotage takes the levels to dizzying heights; no doubt it will dumbfound clubbers worldwide with its progressive intensity.

Andy Chatterley’s astounding production and remixing skills are showcased in Sabotage (Andy Chatterley Dub) which is most certainly a romping, raving and roving industrial techno track with an afterhours attitude that permeates the air. Effects reminiscent of…
